The Advantages to Dating a Southern Gentleman

Obviously, there are many advantages to dating a southern gentleman including, but not limited to: having your car door opened for you most of the time, and the super cute accent.

However, probably one of the best things about dating a born and bred southerner, for me at least, is all the family recipes I now have access to.  Especially the desserts.  Not so great for my diet, but yummy for my tummy.  True story, prior to a few months ago I had never made a pie.  Pies are not so big where my family is from, I can probably count on one hand the number of times I had even ATE pie.  Maybe that's because my family is weird, but I really think that pies are a "southern" thing.  To be honest with you, I always thought I didn't like pie.  Well ladies, this is the pie that changed my mind.  The recipe comes from Mr. Geek Squad's family, and it's ridiculously simple, and also ridiculously amazing.

Chocolate Pie

You'll need:
1 block chocolate
1 cup sugar
5 level T flour
2 eggs
Milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 T butter
Pie Crust
Cool Whip

Separate 2 eggs.  In yolk add enough milk to make 2 cups.

Combine with chocolate, sugar, and flour and cook until thick.  The pie isn't going to cook anymore after this so make sure it's really thick.

Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.  Sidenote: It's totally okay if you can't resist the urge to stick your finger in there and give it a little taste.  Just call it quality control.

Pour into cooked pie crust.  Please excuse my ghetto looking pie crust.  I used store bought and couldn't roll it out big enough.  I will be making a homemade crust from now on.

Let pie cool in fridge, then spread Cool Whip over the top.  Grate some chocolate over the top to make it look at all fancy and stuff.  Now try to control yourself before you eat it all at once.

  1. Yum! I made a pie very similar to this, except I did a pretzel crust for it. To. Die. For. {but then again, I'm obsessed with chocolate and pretzels!} Good job on your improved skills in the kitchen!
